  My wife and I went on the Tropical Rainforest Tour by Costa Rica Unique. The experience was fabulous! Our tour guide Harold was AMAZING! He picked us up promptly at... read more our hotel and explained key points of interest about Costa Rica as we traveled to our first stop which was the waterfall. The falls was nice and we were able to get in and swim if we wished. Harold was very accommodating by taking pictures of us and the other couple that traveled with us throughout the tour. We next hiked through the rainforest where we saw several white-faced monkeys. We didn’t see much wild life in that location, but that did not take away from the experience. The hanging bridges were a little scary. We next traveled to another location where we saw a little more wild life and Costa Rican vegetation. The topping to this location was that we saw at least 4 sloths, 2 of which we were able to get close enough to take pictures with. The excursion ended with lunch where there was an amazing butterfly garden. This was simply a great trip!

Then we went into town. I just assumed Harold would wait for us. He took us to an tour guide office and we were told transportation would be provided back to Secrets. He advised us although we were safe, not to flash $. There we enjoyed the locals, chicken on a stick, vendors and the beach. And in no time we were back to Secrets.
On our next visit, we will definitely book with Frank. And as much as I bothered him, he was so friendly and assured me everything would be fine and he was totally RIGHT....

  I have always previously booked our trips and excursions with our travel operator, so I was a bit apprehensive about taking the plunge and going straight to a local operator.... read more I shouldn’t have been. Frank was amazing. He wanted to know what we wanted to do as a family and was honest about travel times and what would work best for our family with a 7 seven year old and a 10 year old. He advised us not to book two similar trips (which he didn’t have to do as it would have been beneficial for him for us to do so) and he was excellent at keeping in contact and his replies were prompt and informative. We booked four excursions: 1. Sunset cruise. We were met on the beach by Frank and he talked to us about Costa Rica while we waited for our boat. The trip was brilliant. We were kept well with plenty of drinks and the snacks were excellent. We snorkelled and saw wild dolphins. The one thing I would say was that some of the music choices weren’t necessarily appropriate with young children in board! I don’t think they noticed though! 2. Magic of the Rainforest. We swam in a beautiful waterfall and trekked through the rainforest and had a wonderful time on quite a few hanging bridges! We booked four excursions:

2. Magic of the Rainforest. We swam in a beautiful waterfall and trekked through the rainforest and had a wonderful time on quite a few hanging bridges! Our guide Harold was extremely knowledgeable and excellent with the children. My husband was super excited to see leaf cutter ants in action (this made his holiday!) We had a wonderful lunch where we also got to experience a butterfly sanctuary and then headed to a reserve where we saw many sloths (much to the delight of my sloth-crazy 7 year old). There was a lot of walking and it was tiring but my children didn’t once complain which goes to show how good Harold was at keeping them engaged!
3. Mirrevalles volcano and zip lining. This was my favourite trip. Our guide was Wilbert, who was excellent and extremely knowledgeable. Again we started with a swim in a waterfall and then went to zip line through the rainforest. There was a long and STEEP walk up to the first line, but my goodness was it worth it! 6 zip lines through the forest, finishing with a 300 metre line back to the lodge. The views were stunning and the guys at the zip lining place were amazing with the children. We were with another family with two young children and they all had an amazing time! There was also a bonus sloth in the tree at the lodge, so that was exciting! We then went for lunch (again excellent) and then a horse riding trek. This was fantastic and the children had an amazing time. Then it was off to the volcano crater. This is a live crater where you can see the boiling water coming out from the ground. We sat in a natural sauna before. Covering ourselves in mud, letting it dry off, showering and then taking a dip in three different temperature hot springs. My skin felt amazing!! Then it was back to the hotel. What a day!!
4. River safari. We went to a national park for this. Again, Wilbert was our guide and he was great again! We stopped off to see monkeys on the way and then did our boat ride on the river where we saw many crocodiles, and lots of other wildlife. I made friends with a gigantic grasshopper! Lunch was excellent again and then we had a demonstration of pottery from a local family which was very interesting.

On all of our excursions, we were met promptly and made to feel welcome and included throughout each day. There were several ways to pay (we did it via PayPal) and Frank was extremely helpful and prompt in all of his replies.
We genuinely feel like we had a far better service through Frank than we have ever had when booking our excursions through our travel company and will not hesitate to use him again when we return to Costa Rica.
