I booked with Frank the Tank after reading many good reviews and we were not disappointed. From the start, Frank was very helpful, communications were excellent from deciding upon tours... read more to the day prior to our excursion. We have just done the Volcano Mega Combo and it was a fantastic day and all at very reasonable price. Frank contacted the day before our trip confirming that our guide would be Marvin and sent us his photo so we knew who to look for on the beach. Marvin was prompt, friendly and very informative. He went above and beyond to make sure we were well looked after, he is a credit to the company and works very hard. I would highly recommend these guys to anyone looking to explore the local area. Don't be put off that they aren't the bigger tour operators, I'd much prefer to support local companies and these guys do a top job. We are certainly looking forward to our next 2 trips with Costa Rica Unique Transfers and Tours.

This day out was booked 9 months in advance, for my 60th birthday. I hadn’t realised that we had booked a private tour and so it would be just the... read more two of us, this was a pleasant surprise. We were picked up promptly at 8am by Johnathan who was to be our driver and guide. During the 90 minute or so drive to the Tenorio volcano for the Finca Verdi walk we learned much of history and culture of Costa Rica. Everything was going to plan until we were some 15 mins into the walk when we came to the first of 5 suspended bridges, this was not mentioned on the website or in any correspondence with Jose. We both suffer from vertigo (my wife struggles with a two-step stool and I’m a little better) meaning that we were unable to go any further, also, this first bridge was the easiest so there was no way even with the greatest of determination, that we were going to be able to complete the walk. We found out from Johnathan that the waterfall swim was part of this walk, so we were unable to do this either. Of note is that we didn’t find this out until we were returning to the vehicle and hadn’t been advised to take towels, change of clothes etc. with us, so I guess that we would have just completed the walk in wet clothes! TIP – take water; we stopped briefly for a coffee at La Gran Nicoya and if we hadn’t taken water we wouldn’t have had a drink until lunch.
To Johnathan’s credit he took us to nearby Spring Paradise Bijagua where we were guided around a small area of (apparently) natural woodland where we were able to see sloths, frogs, toucans and much more. So, we did get to see some of what we went all that way for. TIP – take a $1 plastic poncho so that if it rains you can cover up - it’s brief but can be heavy.
After another drive through the fabulous countryside, we arrived at Restaurante Cocobolo a roadside eatery on the Inter American Highway where we had a simple Costa Rican style lunch. It was from here that we began the highlight of the day; a tour down part of the Corobici river. I have no idea how long we spent in the capable hands of Phillipe, but we travelled over 14km down river in absolute wonder at what we saw. To name a few; crocodile, kingfisher (4 varieties), Jesus Christ lizard (and yes, they do run on water), Osprey, vulture, heron, stork, howler monkey, white faced monkey, bats. What an experience. Phillipe even brought water, soft drinks and fresh pineapple in a cooler – eating freshly cut pineapple whilst floating down the river – that’s one for the bucket list. We were back at our hotel by 5pm.
We expected 3 parts to this day out; jungle walk, waterfall swim and river tour. The bridges put paid to the plan and whilst we were extremely disappointed not to be able to two of the three, the river tour was perfect. And the alternative to see some wildlife went some way to mitigating our upset. We had a few issues during the day but with Jose just a WhatsApp message away, these were quickly and professionally resolved. The next time we’re in Costa Rica, we’ll certainly give him a call.
