Blue River Tour

  This tour was just ok... Hike was good but no animals. Waterfall was nice. Guide was informative and engaging . The last part is where we were to see some... read more animals but they were few and far apart.. they were on some private land not in the wild.. not worth the money

  We went on the Magic of the Rainforest and the Miravalles Volcano tours, with Eddie Rojas as our guide. Eddie is an outstanding tour guide. He is so proud of... read more his country and his heritage and his enthusiasm was infectious, we enjoyed every minute of our tour. We had the great fortune to see white faced monkeys, howler monkeys and spider monkeys as well as many sloths in their natural environments. We left Costa Rica knowing that when we come back we will be checking to see if Eddie is available to take us on more tours - we all left Costa Rica knowing that we had made a great friend in Eddie, and touring the area with him helped make one of the most memorable vacations we have ever had.   We did 3 tours with Costa Rica Unique Transfers and Tours (CRU): A customized tour, the Palo Verde River Safari, and Miravalles. They also provided our transfers to and from... read more the airport in Liberia. Normally, the company like to have at least 4 people for a tour so that worked out well for my family of 4. The Adventure Combo tour sounded like a good overview of things to do, but we didn't want to do some of the things in the tour so we asked if we could do a customized tour. They were very accommodating and were able to come up with something that fit our needs, and cost less. All the tours were great! We got to see a range of wildlife and experience some of the local food and culture. They were very punctual, which was important when we considered using them as airport transfers. We had 3 different drivers, one for each tour. George, Wilbur, and Marvin. All were reasonably proficient in English (certainly better than my Spanglish) so we didn't have any significant issues communicating. Wilbur and Marvin made sure to give us some local perspective during our tours, but we liked all of our drivers and would recommend all of them. Marvin is probably the most relaxed and easy going of the 3, but I can't say we ever felt rushed. They all made sure we knew that they were there for our... Our transportation consisted of air conditioned vans. The drivers had a cooler with bottled water, so we always had nice cold water. The tour guides were clearly used to tourists and they went out of their way to make sure you saw as much wildlife in the area. They were really good at spotting the animals.

Keep in mind that Costa Rica is one of the most expensive countries in Latin America and CRU is a little more expensive than competitors. We went with them because they're insured, licensed, professional, punctual, provide excellent service and are pretty much hassle free. More
