The best sportfishing in Guanacaste

  This was our second tour of the week with Costa Rica Unique (CRU) tours. Geordi, our guide, and Ernesto, our driver, were fabulous. Let me tell you why.... read more First, Geordi was friendly, easy in manner, and informative about all things "tico": the geography, the culture, the history, the challenges facing CR today; we asked it and he answered us. We shared information about our families and the wonderful challenge before him in pulling off his daughter's quinceñera. In addition, his English was accomplished enough to reach into the areas of humor and exaggeration, things non-native English speakers often struggle with. At one point, Geordi tried teaching me a few Spanish tongue-twisters, which my limited Spanish succeeded in murdering. (Tres tristes tigres tragaban trigo...and I forget how it ended.) He floated easily between members of our tour and "shepherded" his flock (the tour members) realistically and efficiently. After a day with us, his upbeat (but not hyper) posture seemed to rub off on us and we felt that we'd like him to lead all our tours (the guides on all three of our CRU tours made us feel the same way). We even got to see four sloths quite near us near Christian's farm! Ernesto was a safe and accomplished driver. I never once felt uneasy about the traffic situation. But he did so much more than driving. At each stop possible, he parked the bus and accompanied us on our tour, shouldering the role of photographer for those of us...well...all of us who wanted more than the limited visual scope obtained through selfies. He also shielded us from many of the loiterers who will gladly take your picture with your camera...for a fee, of course. Finally, I cannot end this review without sharing with you an "over the top" gesture offered by José, the CRU supervisor. At the beginning of our tour, we stopped in Liberia to get COVID-19 tests before traveling back to the states. Wouldn't you know it, our credit card picked this day to balk. Were we in a pickle since our flight out of CR was in two days and we didn't have plans to return to Liberia again. When we approached Geordi about our predicament, he immediately called José at the main office in Playas del Coco. With my limited Spanish and Geordi's intonation on the phone with José, I knew in a moment that there was nothing to worry about. José advanced the fee to the clinic and we met him the next morning before our final tour to square up with him. We moved from a posture of fretfulness and worry to one of relief, gratitude and light-heartedness in enjoying the rest of our day. We will not hesitate to contact Costa Rica Unique Tours on our next visit to Playas del Coco. …

  We just got back from a trip to Costa Rica where we spent half a day with Frank The Tanks boat tour. Bruno and Pablo were our guides and... read more they were great. We were on the Rooster Fish boat. They were informative and a lot of fun. We stopped on an island and went through a cave. We fed monkeys. Spent 30 minutes snorkeling. Pablo was amazing. He would dive down to the very deep bottom and move rocks to wake up the fish for us.
We would highly recommend Frank the Tank tours.
